Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society
Did Your Family Come to Southwest Oklahoma Prior to 1920?
The Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society is gathering information on the Pioneers of Southwest Oklahoma who came to settle this land prior to 1920. The information requested includes name of husband and wife, when and where they came from, when and where they were born, married and died, their parents, their children, and other information such as, military service, occupation and religious affiliation.
The information from these questionaires will be placed in book form in the Lawton Public Library and will also be available for purchase. As the society trades their publications with other genealogical societies, many of the books will be placed in library collections around the country.
There is no time limit on this project as the society plans to continue to gather records on these pioneers and publish the books as long as information comes in. This is not a "Certificate" project, there is no cost to contribute information, and you do not have to "prove" the information is correct. They will be softcover books of 100-200 families each.
The counties of Southwestern Oklahoma are: Beckham, Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Jefferson, Kiowa, Stephens, Tillman and Washita.
A copy of the Pioneer Form can be printed from our web site. Just click on the Pioneer Form link. You may type the information or fill it out in ink, then mail it to us at the address on the form.
