Joseph Shoun and Mary "Polly" Wills


      Joseph Shoun (1803-1881) married Mary "Polly" Wills (1806-1892) on 12 February 1828, in Johnson County, Tennessee. He had a farm on Doe Creek, adjacent to his brothers, Frederick and William, and about five miles west of Mountain City. Mary "Polly" was the daughter of Lewis Wills, Jr., and Catherine Weitzel. She was a double first cousin of Polly Wills who married Joseph's brother, Isaac Shoun. Joseph and Polly had seven children, two sons and five girls.

      (2) Nancy S. Shoun (20 November 1831-3 April 1891) married twice, first to William B. Stout (18 April 1821-7 July 1871) on 3 June 1855 in Johnson county, Tennessee. To this union were born seven children. William had previously been divorced by Sarah Edna Moore, Nancy's cousin. Upon the early death of William, Nancy remarried for a second time to John L. Cable on 23 November 1876, also in Johnson County. there were no known children to this second marriage.

      (3) Andrew G. Shoun (4 December 1832-21 January 1889) married twice, first to Mrs. Sarafine C. Wagner on 24 November 1861 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Sarafine had two girls by her former marriage, but there were no children born to her and Andrew. On 20 March 1884, Andrew married Lavinia L. Davis Dillon (1850-1933), also at Johnson County, Tennessee.

      Sarafine's two children, Winnie S. (born c. 1855) and Nancy L. (born c. 1857) were raised by Andrew and Sarafine.


      (4) Rebecca E. Shoun (10 March 1835-11 October 1916) married Isaac "Erwin" Wilson (27 January 1831-1 February 1883) on 16 September 1855 in Johnson County, Tennessee. To this marriage were born fourteen children.

      (5) Isaac Finley Shoun (10 March 1835-17 May 1923) married Mary Isabella "Mollie" Elrod (15 August 1841-27 February 1910), on 3 March 1857 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Isaac had served in the Civil War, and the family came to Oregon in 1884. They settled in Wheeler County, Oregon and built a large ranch. To this family were born seven children. Mollie was a sister to my grandmother, Rebecca Elrod.
