Frederick Shoun and Sarah Salome Burkett


      Frederick Shoun (1800-1881) was the eighth born child of Leonard Shoun and Barbara Virginia Slemp. He married Sarah "Sally" Salome Burkett (1804-1866). The date and place of their marriage is unknown, but we suspect it was in Ashe County, North Carolina, where Sally was born. Frederick and Sally moved around a bit in their marriage days, living on Doe Valley, then in North Carolina, and Frederick finally moved back to Butler, Tennessee, where he lived at the time of his death.

      To this union were born thirteen children, but we have only sketchy information on a few of them. These children seemed to fan out in several different directions, none of them staying in Johnson County, Tennessee.

      (2) Barbara Shoun (c 1828-1911) married John P. Stout (1815-1865) on 30 October 1852, in Johnson County, Tennessee. John had previously been married to Martha Pearce in 1838 and was widowed. There were several children to this marriage and in 1860 Johnson County census, their children are scattered among several families in the county. John and Barbara had seven children before John passed away in 1865. John's parents were George Peter Stout (1768-1860) and Elizabeth Potter (1775- ?).

      (3) William Carter Shown (1830-1880) was married twice, first to Mahulda "Mary" Lindsay (1829- ?), on 18 November 1849 at Campbell County, Tennessee. To this union were born ten children. Mary died in the early 1870's, at Jacksboro, Tennessee. William Carter remarried Juliet C. Thomas (1839-1900), on 3 January 1875, also in Campbell County, Tennessee. To this union were born two children. Juliet was a widow, having married Isaac Agee Gross on 8 August 1857, in Campbell County, Tennessee.

      (12) Andrew Wilburn Shoun (1849-1919) was married twice, first to Nancy Heatherly (1850-c. 1887), on 2 July 1871, at La Follette, Tennessee. To this marriage were born eight children, all of whom settled in and around Campbell County, Tennessee. Andrew married a second time to Barbara E. Wilson (1871-1956), on 19 December 1893. Upon Andrew's passing Barbara married a second time to F. Broyles on 25 October 1922.
