John S. Shoun and Susan Baker

John S. Shoun (1793-1883), the first born of seventeen children to Leonard Shoun and Barbara Virginia Slemp, married twice. First, to Susan Baker (1798-1850), in 1816, and later, upon the death of Susan, to Hiley Campbell (c. 1806- ?). There were thirteen children born to John and Susan, seven boys and six girls. There were no children born to the union of John and Hiley.

John and Susan lived on a farm on Little Doe Creek, about four miles west of Mountain City, Johnson County, Tennessee. He operated a country store for many years, in addition to running the farm. Little is known about his second marriage to Hiley Campbell.

Many believe that John was the most well-to-do of all of Leonard and Barbara's sons, and that everyone in the family in trouble went to John S. for assistance and received it.

He and Susan have the largest number of descendants of any of this large Shoun family. Or, at least, the number that have been located is larger than any other of the seventeen children of Leonard and Barbara Shoun.

John S. Shoun and Susan Baker's thirteen children are listed below, along with their year and birth and death, the name of their spouse(s) and year of marriage:

(1) Andrew Baker J. Shown(1818-1898)(1) Sarafine "Sophia" Blevins (1840)
