Nancy R. Johnson and Jesse Crosswhite



      Nancy R. Johnson (1807- ?) was the first born to Thomas H. Johnson and Susannah Wright Johnson, his third wife. Nancy married Jesse Crosswhite (18 April 1804-5 April 1848) about 1825/6 in Carter County, Tennessee. This famly settled in the Shady Valley area of what is now Johnson County, Tennessee.

      Nancy and Jesse had nine children, which are listed below, along with their year of birth and death, the name of their spouse(s), and year of marriage.

      (1) Thomas J. Crosswhite (13 February 1827-8 January 1912) married Rebeckah Jane Donnelly (2 October 1829-12 April 1909) on 29 October 1851, in Johnson County, Tennessee. Thomas was a Christian minister and moved about the area conducting religious services.

      Rebeckah Jane Donnelly was the daughter of William and Sarah (McQueen) Donnelly. Her father had died by the time she was married. Thomas and Rebeckah had eight children, which are listed below, with the year of birth/death, name of spouse(s), year of marriage, and the number and names of children, if known:

      (2) Landon C. Crosswhite (28 January 1829-1 December 1892) married Caroline Buckles (22 June 1835-21 January 1925) on 2 March 1856 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Landon was a farmer that lived on Little Doe Creek. Caroline was the daughter of Edward and Susan (Gentry) Buckles.       (4) Solomon S. Crosswhite (26 March 1832-22 March 1916) married nancy Lowe (18 October 1840- ?) on 25 November 1865 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Nancy was the daughter of Abraham Lowe and Nancy (Crosswhite) Lowe. To this marriage were born six children, which are listed below:

      (5) Mary Ann Crosswhite (c. 1833-1917) married three times, first to William Underwood on 13 September 1857 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Mary was widowed and married Albert Clark. To this marriage were born three children, which are listed below. Mary Ann's third marriage was to Moses Friddle on 28 November 1868 in Johnson County. She was also widowed by Moses.

      (6) Susannah Crosswhite (1835- ?) married William Adams on 3 November 1872 in Johnson County, Tennessee. William was previously married and had two children. There were no children born to this marriage.


      (7) William L. Crosswhite (1837- ?) married twice, first to Jane Adams in February, 1858 in Johnson County, Tennessee. We are unaware of the name of his second wife and we have no further information on this family.


      (8) Nancy C. Crosswhite (1845- ?) married Alexander H. McQueen on 11 October 1866 in Johnson County, Tennessee. There was one son born to this couple in the 1870 Johnson County census. However, the family is not found in the 1880 census, so we believe they moved elsewhere.
