Calloway "Calvin" Elrod and Francis Louisa Jones

Calloway "Calvin" Elrod (3 March 1818-26 October 1861) was the seventh born to Adam Elrod and Nancy Phillips. He was born in Ashe County, North Carolina, and died at Mountain City, in Johnson County, Tennessee.

Calvin married Francis Louisa "Fannie" Jones (20 April 1821-11 October 1881) on 16 May 1840 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Fannie was the daughter of Joseph Dykes Jones and Mary Foster of Wilkes County.

Most of Calvin and Fannie's family were born in Wilkes County, North Carolina. They moved to Johnson County, Tennessee in the early 1850's, and settled in District #2, Mountain City. Calvin served as Clerk of Johnson County prior to his early death. However, they were not recorded in the 1860 Johnson County census, so they must have been living in both Wilkes County and Johnson County during the years 1859 and 1860.

To this marriage were born ten children, the last two in Johnson County. In fact, their last child was born after his father's death.

The names of Calvin and Fannie's children are listed below, along with their year of birth and death, the name of their spouse(s), and year of marriage.

Isaac served in the Civil War, as a sergeant in the Union Army, under Capt. Alfred T. Donnelly in Company D, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry. He was in 14 severe engagements, and was with the soldiers that killed Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan, the famous Confederate scout in Greeneville, Tennessee on 4 September 1864.

Isaac served as sheriff of Johnson County from 1868 to 1872, County Trustee from 1872-1874, Sheriff again from 1874-1876, and also served as tax collector for four years. He was first appointed Sheriff by President Andrew Johnson.

Isaac and Mollie, with their four younger sons moved to what is now Wheeler County, Oregon in 1884. They were proceded by their two older sons, Joseph and Stacy. There the family developed a cattle ranch, about four miles west of Richmond, Oregon. During this time Isaac held several county offices.
