Selah Elrod and David Mikeal





      Selah Elrod (7 December 1812-21 December 1897) was the fourth child of Adam Elrod and Nancy Phillips. Selah was born in Watauga County, North Carolina, and married David Mikeal (born 3 February 1818 in Clinton County, Ohio) on 5 March 1840, in Ashe County, North Carolina.

      Selah and David had eight children, all born in Wilkes County, which are listed below, along with their year of birth and death, the name of their spouse(s), and year of marriage:

      (1) Allie B. Mikeal (20 or 30 January 1841-18 June 1916) married Triplett Hamby on 17 March 1867. We have no information on children. Allie died in Watauga County, North Carolina, and is buried at the Stony Fork Baptist Church Cemetery there.


      (2) Alexander Mikeal (17 September 1842-died during Civil War) married America Jane Phillips on 20 May 1859. Jane was the daughter of William and Jemina (Yates) Phillips. There were two children born to this marriage, but we know the names of only two of them.

      (3) Asa T. Mikeal (31 January 1845-28 July 1898) married Sarah Elizabeth Brown on 10 May 1866 in Watauga County, North Carolina. She was born 14 September 1843 and died on 27 January 1923. We have no information on children born to this union.


      (4) Rhoda Mikeal (5 February 1847-12 December 1924) married George Finley Blackburn on 31 October 1867 in Ashe County, North Carolina. George was born on 26 December 1841, the son of William and Sarah (McNeil) Blackburn.


      (5) Eliza Mikeal (16 January 1849-25 September 1928) married Reverend William Martin Lee on 10 December 1864. William was born on 6 January 1847 in Wilkes County. He was the son of Jesse G. and Jane Elizabeth (Holland) Lee.

      (7) Olive Mikeal (16 March 1853-9 May 1926) married three times. First, she married Shadrach Greer Baker (30 November 1845-17 December 1890) on 1 December 1870 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Shadrach was a teacher as well as a farmer in Wilkes County. To this marriage were born nine children.

      Olive married a second time to A. Larkin Mikeal on 4 July 1904 in Wilkes County. There were no children. This marriage ended in divorce. Olive married a third time to G. Wiseman Greene on 23 February 1907 in Wilkes County.

      (8) Welborn B. Mikeal (10 September 1855-7 October 1939) married Martha Caroline Phillips (20 October 1862-22 January 1955) on 6 January 1881 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Martha was the daughter of Hugh and Fannie Caroline (Fairchild) Phillips.
